Job Description
SJS Industrial, a veteran-owned media blasting, industrial painting, powder coating, and light fabrication shop in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking a full-time professional Spray Painter to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The ideal candidate will have recent technical experience applying industrial or marine coatings to metal components and enjoys collaborating within a fast-paced, team environment. From applying wet coatings in accordance with customer work orders to providing instruction to junior staff, this role offers a dynamic array of responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Apply wet coatings in accordance with customer work orders and technical drawings
- Operate all equipment following OEM instructions for safety and correct use
- Inspect work daily for quality and prevent defects before passing items to other departments
- Provide instruction on safely spray painting and operating small hand and power tools
- Regularly monitor paint stocks, levels, and storage to eliminate waste and report issues promptly
- Perform routine shift closeout activities like cleanup and general housekeeping
- Other production-related tasks as assigned by Management
Qualifications
- Four or more years of recent career experience wet spray painting in an industrial or maritime environment
- Experience with industrial wet spray painting and C12 certification are major pluses
- Understanding of the basic physical properties and mechanics of spray painting for metals
- Ability to interpret line drawings, specifications, and technical details on work orders
- Strong English communication skills and ability to provide instructions to junior staff
- Physical capability to stand, walk, bend over, crouch, and lift objects up to 30 pounds
- Willingness and ability to work in different temperatures and humidity levels
- Forklift certification and the ability to successfully pass a drug test and background check are preferred
